Gemstones are a matter of enigma and speculation from time immemorial. The extraordinary and satiated colors of many gems enhance their aesthetic beauty, while others yield extraordinary fire, birefringence or other unique light displays. The first discovery of gemstone, thus, can be marked as an important event in evolution. Man's ever-increasing quench for gemstones, however, failed to keep pace with the expensive cost of these substances of timeless treasure. Thus, the process of manufacturing synthetic gemstones stepped into the scenario. Now, besides natural gemstones, synthetic gemstones also cover a large sector of global market. Synthetic stones, however, will always be different from the natural ones. Hence one should definitely have a thorough knowledge about the processes by which synthetics are formed and the ways which distinguish them from the natural ones.

The earliest ceramics were pottery objects, made from clay, either by itself or mixed with other materials, hardened in fire. Later ceramics were glazed and fired to create a colored, smooth surface. Ceramics now include domestic, industrial and building products and art objects. In the 21st century, now ceramic materials were developed for use in advanced ceramic engineering; for example, in semiconductors. Now it is being used in both of traditional & modern aspects.

Waste management is a challenging task due to its wide variations in handling materials. Clay plays as an important agent for recycling of toxic and non toxic wastes. Waste management program needs proper understanding of the waste types and adequate information about the waste treatment process.

Previously with the beginning of education academically, emphasis was given mostly on core topics of various subjects like chemistry, physics, mathematics etc. In recent times, many unsolved questions are being solved. For example, recently a team of astrophysicists have produced an image of black hole. This work would not have been possible if people of various backgrounds didn’t come forward with their knowledge of core subjects along with knowledge in various other related fields. Here the term “astrophysicists” gives us the view of a combined study of two subjects i.e. physics and astronomy. In order to gain insights knowledge in applied subjects a multidisciplinary form of study and research is required. Interdisciplinary is the form of study of two or more disciples. Shortage of food caused the horses to die which inspired Karl Von Drais to invent the bicycle. The invention of bicycle and its social impact especially on woman is quite important in history.
